I'm crowdfunding the completion of my book!

After teaching this material to 2000+ students in online courses, I’m turning my Nervous System Study Group curriculum into a workbook.

In this context, holistic means looking at the big picture, how each individual nervous system is part of a network of nervous systems. This eBook presents a holistic understanding of our individual and collective nervous systems covering topics such as polyvagal basics and criticism, neurodivergent and systemic trauma, and pathways to healing. Each chapter includes discussion questions for individual reflection or small group exploration.

I am not announcing a date of completion, but I am promising that some day in the future, this eBook will arrive in your inbox.

I am not announcing a date of completion, because deadlines can be a PDA trigger. I'm only able to make progress on this manuscript when I feel inspired rather than pressured.

I'm gradually converting 8 two-hour lecture transcripts into readable chapters, adding extra details that I forgot to share during class, and creating some brand new infographics to explain things.

While deadlines can create disabling pressure, knowing that people want this book helps me feel inspired and motivated to write.

I am soo excited to share this material with you because it literally changed my life when I learned it. I stopped looking for something to heal me because I learned how to heal myself.

This book addresses a gap in the collective understanding of how our bodies function. It will help us remember things that humans used to know but have largely forgotten.

Although this is an educational book, and NOT self-help material, many students have reported transformational experiences including more self-love, more gentleness with themselves, more understanding of their own bodies, and more acceptance of their neurodivergence.

Who is this for?

This book is for anyone who wants to understand their own body better and for anyone whose work in the world is served by understanding how human bodies function.

Participants in the online course have included coaches, counselors, therapists, social workers, somatic practitioners, massage therapists, yoga teachers, and many other types of helping and healing professionals.

The information in this book will be useful for nervous system beginners as well as for people who have a lot of nervous system education already and are looking to expand and/or contextualize that information.

Unlike many texts about the nervous system and trauma, there are no detailed stories of traumatic events in this book. The most triggering information you might encounter in this book is truth about our collective reality. You still might need to take breaks when reading it.

Janae (they/she/he) is an information synthesizer who has been studying polyvagal theory and related nervous system models for 6+ years. Their specialty is tying together threads of information from many different fields to create a holistic understanding of the nervous system and neurodivergence. Janae has deeply studied these topics in an effort to understand herself better as an AuDHD PDAer with complex trauma. Since 2018, they have been teaching about trauma, the nervous system, and neurodiversity through local peer support circles and through the advocacy and education project, Trauma Geek. Past students in Janae's courses have reported transformational experiences including more self-love, more gentleness with themselves, more understanding of their own bodies, more acceptance of themselves, and more connection to community.
